My Type 1 Diabetes Pregnancy Journey
Pregnancy was one of the biggest chapters of my Type 1 diabetes journey. From preparing for pregnancy to becoming a mom in 2023, it changed the way I thought about my body, my diabetes, and taking care of myself.
Before Pregnancy
Before pregnancy, I had already spent many years learning how to live with Type 1 diabetes. Insulin, blood sugar checks, unexpected highs and lows, and planning around diabetes had become part of everyday life.
But pregnancy made me look at diabetes differently. It wasn’t just about managing my own body anymore. I was preparing for one of the biggest changes of my life, and I knew I would have a lot to learn along the way.
Pregnancy in 2022-2023
Pregnancy brought a completely different level of attention to my Type 1 diabetes. There were more things to think about, more moments of uncertainty, and a lot of learning along the way.
I had to become even more aware of my blood sugar and how my body was responding to everything changing around me. Some days felt manageable, while others were harder than I expected.
At the same time, I was experiencing something I had wanted deeply: the excitement of becoming a mom.
My pregnancy wasn’t simply a “diabetes pregnancy.” It was my pregnancy, with all the emotions, anticipation, challenges, and beautiful moments that came with it.
Becoming a Mom
In 2023, I became a mom.
It was one of the most meaningful moments of my life, but it also brought a new reality: learning how to care for myself while caring for someone who depended on me completely.
Motherhood didn’t make Type 1 diabetes disappear. If anything, it made me more aware of how important it was to take care of myself, even on the days when my own needs felt easy to put aside.
Becoming a mom taught me that taking care of myself isn’t selfish. It’s part of being there for the people I love.
What Pregnancy Taught Me
Pregnancy taught me that living with Type 1 diabetes isn’t about having perfect numbers or doing everything perfectly.
It taught me to be patient with myself, to adapt when things didn’t go as planned, and to recognize that some seasons of life simply require more from you.
Most of all, it taught me that diabetes is only one part of my story. It doesn’t define my ability to experience the things I want from life, including becoming a mother and building a life that feels strong and meaningful.
A chapter I will always carry with me
Pregnancy and motherhood became two of the most important chapters of my Type 1 diabetes journey. They changed how I saw my body, my health, and what I was capable of.
I know every pregnancy and every diabetes journey is different. This is simply what mine looked like, and I’m grateful I get to share this chapter here.
